The blade of this knife is made of stainless Swedish steel. However, scharferLaden.de also stocks the carbon steel version.
It can be quickly locked by turning a safety ring, the so-called “Virobloc system”. The French call the sharply pointed blade “Yatagan”. This was the name of a Seljuk commander in the Ottoman Empire, after whom not only a city but also this sword shape was named.
The handle is made of dried, long-stored beech wood from French farms. A special varnish protects it from moisture.
OPINEL produces this model from No. 2 to No. 13. No. 1 and the double No. 11 were discontinued in the 1930s; neither we nor the Sécurité Extérieure have been able to get hold of them. The giant model No. 13, with a total length of 50 cm, has been available since the 1970s.
