The bee and spring – known in French as the ressort – are forged from a single piece of metal. The fine guilloché decorations are hand-chiseled using classic goldsmith techniques: with file and graver. This level of artisanal detail stands for one thing above all – LUXE. Luxury, in its purest form.
The double liners, also handcrafted, elegantly widen the spine of the knife, giving it both strength and visual gravitas. The blade is made from non-stainless XC75 carbon steel – forged, shaped, ground, chiseled, guilloché-engraved, and polished entirely in the FORGE DE LAGUIOLE workshop, located at 1,300 meters above sea level in Laguiole, France.
This remarkable building was designed by none other than Philippe Starck. Don’t worry – you can’t miss it. A sixty-foot steel blade rises sharply into the sky, making the forge impossible to overlook.
The bolsters are matte-finished, providing added weight, yes – but also necessary protection for the precious wood handle. Only the finest materials are chosen for the LUXE series – now offered under the name COLLECTION.
A hand-chiseled bee graces the spine, accompanied by a runway of guilloché artwork carved by a master. The traditional shepherd’s cross, inlaid into the juniper wood with fine pins, has become legendary – and earned the knife a poetic nickname:
“The smallest chapel in the world.”
As the legend goes, shepherds once stuck their knives upright in the ground and knelt before them to pray – in the absence of a proper church. Why they kneeled is your business. But from a certain age on, you may start asking:
“How do I get back up again?”
And that, dear reader, is when you’ll truly appreciate having a shepherd’s cross at your side.
