From HEROLD: a strop made of Russia leather, i.e. leather from cattle or calf, with two sides. One side is a grindstone/slate stone from Thuringia, which roughly corresponds to grit 8000. The slate is used for the rough sharpening, either dry or moistened with water, but never with oil. The Russia leather side is used for the fine sharpening. Russia leather, also known as Russian leather, comes from animals that have spent their lives in sandy landscapes. Over the course of their lives, their skin absorbs dust particles, which, when processed into leather, act like fine sandpaper.
The slate is suitable for re-sharpening, but not for building up a completely new razor edge. This strop is often used for pruning knives with very thin blades. Musicians who cut the mouthpieces of their instruments with knives appreciate this strop.
The supple juch leather, also known as yuft, undergoes a special tanning process and is characterized by an exceptionally long lifespan. And it gives the perfect finish to every blade, even straight razor blades. HEROLD has been making strop leather in Solingen since 1919.
All items are made in-house in Solingen, with vegetable and anti-allergenic tanning.
