This HEROLD bench strop is made from genuine Juchten leather (cow or calf hide) and features two functional sides: a Thüringen slate stone side (approximately grit 8000) for preliminary sharpening, and a Juchten leather side for fine stropping. The slate stone is used dry or lightly moistened with water – never with oil. It is designed for refreshing an existing edge, not for creating a completely new razor bevel. Juchten leather, also known as Russian leather, comes from animals that lived in sandy environments. Over time, microscopic mineral particles embed themselves in the hide, giving the finished leather a naturally mild abrasive effect similar to ultra-fine sandpaper. This makes it ideal for polishing and refining delicate edges. This strop is frequently used for very thin garden knife blades and by musicians who cut their own instrument mouthpieces. However, it is not intended for daily razor maintenance. For regular stropping of a straight razor, a classic hanging strop is required. The supple Juchten leather (also called Juften) undergoes a special tanning process and is known for exceptional durability and longevity. It delivers a refined finish on knife blades and razor edges alike. HEROLD has been manufacturing stropping equipment in Solingen since 1919. All products are made in-house using vegetable-tanned, hypoallergenic leather. For the next 100 years. Questions? Susann Frécôt kontakt@scharferladen.de
