A sewn-on padded handle is used to hold the hanging strap.  The leather is purely vegetable-tanned and manufactured in Solingen by HEROLD. Juchten leather is calf or cowhide tanned in a specific way. Originally produced in Russia - which is why it is still referred to as “Russian leather” today - it is a firm but supple leather with its own unique aroma. This is caused by birch tar oil, which is then applied to the hide. The back of the fabric is always specially prepared by the manufacturer. 
TIP: Leather side = yellow paste, pure grease for daily use of the squeegee belt
       Linen side = white paste, fine abrasive paste for the linen side
FLOP: If you do it the other way around.
Then any tugging at the belt comes too late.
