Article no. A-500 still has a triangle stamped into the metal on the side, see second photograph. The slit mark on the upper adjustment cap must point to this symbol of a triangle on the lower handle holder.
Back in the 1950s, the 500 PROGRESS model from MERKUR was one of the first on the market with an adjustable blade gap.  A screw can be seen at the end of the handle which can be turned and which also loosens the upper head plate. This changes the distance between the firmly clamped blade and the foam edge. If the gap is small, this results in a gentle setting for daily facial shaving. The larger the gap, the more thorough the effect. The skin type and condition and the beard thickness are taken into account in the final setting, which is facilitated by numbering. When clamping the blade, it is important to centre it, which is done by applying grease to the short, blunt sides. The handle and lower head plate form part of the two-part model. You can get started, the blade for the first shave is included. Safety razors are hygiene articles and cannot be exchanged or returned.
