Blue and green or green and blue iridescence? Turquoise is one of those terms that arose from a misunderstanding.
In the 15th century, the corresponding stone was called “pierre turquoise” in French, hence “Turkish stone”. The mineral mass originally came from Iran, where it has been the national gemstone for thousands of years, to Turkey, where it was then traded. Turquoise was considered a healing stone that protected against disease and brought good luck when hunting.
“Beating someone black and blue” causes hematomas on the skin. “To be in a blue funk” has the same effect. Only in this case, one's own stupidity probably struck the corresponding color spectrum.
