Six magnificent steak knives by FORGE DE LAGUIOLE, clad in polished maser birch, presented in the original manufacturer’s box. The maser birch – a fine-grained northern wood with a soft, silky surface – is favored by Scandinavian master knife makers. Its pattern dances between creamy white, pale yellow, and warm brown, like sunlight through a Nordic forest.
After use, gently wipe the blade and dry it immediately – the wooden handle prefers to stay dry. This golden rule applies not only to birch, but to every natural handle material: wood, bone, horn, or ivory — all beautifully alive, and all with their own temperaments.
If you prefer understatement, Scharfer Laden also carries the satin-finished maser birch version.
A steak knife like this isn’t just part of a dining set — it’s a small piece of table philosophy. It glides through tender meat without tearing the fibers, reminding you that elegance begins where haste ends. And that little shepherd’s cross on the handle? According to legend, shepherds once planted their knives in the soil for evening prayer, when chapels were far away or the weather was downright apocalyptic. One could say, with a wink, that each knife carries a touch of divine intervention — or at least enough grace to keep your fingers where they belong.
Hold one of these knives, and you’ll feel it immediately: the craftsmanship, the weight, the precision – and perhaps, a whisper of heaven’s own design.
