A folding pocket knife with great edge retention in a small format, reserved for the German market. It also has a bark remover, which is also called a “horn remover” in some places.
For almost 100 years, the cutlery manufacturer Cognet has been successful in the African market with its DOUK DOUK knife. Designed for sale in the French colonies as a service pocket knife, the handle shows a DOUK DOUK, an oceanic spirit.
The knife is flat, inexpensive, practical, robust, easy to repair, light and has a blade with an incomparable cutting edge. A knife, then, that has character and combines functionality and magic in a unique way.
The unusual handle decoration, which some see as a deity, others as a medicine man or demon, feeds a myth that is passed down from generation to generation and occasionally obscures the knife's birthplace, the cutlery factory in Thiers, France, founded by Antoine Cognet in 1902. Paul Cognet, who heads the family business as a fourth-generation cutler, has understood how to preserve and expand the potential of a brand with a still-unique know-how through new impulses.
I have been selling DOUK DOUK pocket knives for more than 25 years.
