In the late 19th century, the first picnic cutlery was developed in Solingen with handle scales framed in steel, the so-called “Backenbesteck”. For a long time, it was only available as knife and fork.
In 1910, the company August Merten expanded the range to today’s variety including dessert, fish, fruit and serving pieces.
In 1928, the brand “EICHENLAUB” was officially registered and has since been a symbol of first-class forged cutlery.
Since April 1998, the “EICHENLAUB” production and trademark have belonged to the Windmühlenmesser Manufactur Robert Herder GmbH & Co. KG, where the forged cutlery is continued and further developed in traditional manufactory quality.
The cutlery pieces are forged from rust-resistant chrome-vanadium steel in a single piece. All knife blades are matt blue-polished. This can be recognized by their scratch-free shine and a faint blue shimmer in the grooves when light hits at a certain angle.
The handle scales are permanently fixed to the cutlery pieces with polished brass or aluminum rivets. More than 120 manual working steps are required before the cutlery reaches its place on your laid table. The cutlery is not suitable for cleaning in the dishwasher.
EICHENLAUB cutlery is available from me with the following handle materials:
Acrylic, white or black polished, alternatively satin-finished with aluminum rivets
Ebony, black polished with brass rivets
Oak, dark or light, matt finished with brass rivets
Stag horn, polished with brass rivets
Houndwood palisander, polished with brass rivets
Olive wood, matt finished with brass rivets

Other variants and set prices desired? Everything can be ordered.

Consider that even the Celts performed no ritual act without oak leaves. The Roman historian Pliny left us this knowledge.
