The rendezvous of two French icons. In 1979, UNESCO declared Mont St. Michel a World Heritage Site. The second most visited tourist site in France after the Eiffel Tower, the Mont Saint Michel bay is one of the most beautiful in the world. In 2014, this paradise counted 36 inhabitants. Like the abbey, founded and administered by canons at the beginning of the 9th century, it fell into the hands of the Benedictines in the early 10th century.
The FORGE DE LAGUIOLE celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017. Thirty years of existence that have enabled the revival and maintenance of the manufacture of one of the most famous knives in its place of origin: the village of “Laguiole” in Aubrac.
The FORGE DE LAGUIOLE is honored to celebrate this anniversary with the Mont-Saint-Michel with an exceptional knife, the “Sand knife” ST. MICHEL.
Its handle made of sand is a symbol of transition and renewal. The grains are taken from the Mont St. Michel bay, compacted with natural resin. This approach is a first in the history of cutlery manufacturing. And yes, the sand was only taken in very small quantities, in accordance with the laws in force, especially in areas rich in sand. Unfortunately, it runs through the egg timer of life just as quickly as everyone else. The monks' influence on heavenly authorities was not blessed with success. In the meantime, the renowned blacksmiths have created several knife models in the sand, not only in that of Mont Saint Michel.
