The handle is made of metal. The leather is purely vegetable-tanned and manufactured in Solingen by HEROLD. The back of the fabric is always specially prepared by the manufacturer.
TIP: Leather side = yellow paste, pure grease for daily use of the squeegee belt
       Linen side = white paste, fine abrasive paste for the linen side
FLOP: If you do it the other way around.
If you do it the other way round, you can at best lie in the oars to compensate for the misalignment. If a sailor does this, it means he is rowing hard. He uses his entire body weight to pull the oar, which is the rudder at sea.
