HEROLD strops sharpening belts leather pullers grinding belts hanging belts
Herold has been manufacturing high-quality and durable leather strops from German animals since 1919.
The manufacturer Herold produces strops and hanging straps.
- one-sided with leather (cowhide or Juchten)
- double-sided with leather and hemp
- double-sided with leather and linen
The strops and puller straps available in our range are made from Juchten and cowhide leather from German animals.
Genuine Juchten is a first-class cowhide or calfskin, which is particularly soft and supple thanks to its special production process,
but also exceptionally resistant and durable. It is waterproof. This fine quality is transferred to your straight razors
The production method, which originates from Russia, differs from simple cowhide by a special
and very elaborate vegetable (plant-based) pit tanning with willow bark and subsequent treatment with birch oil
Hanging straps are used to pull off the razors. This is used to straighten the burr in the direction away from the blade. We recommend that inexperienced users start with a simple belt. Beginners often accidentally cut into the belt at the start. In addition, yellow strop paste, pure grease cream, improves the pull-off and maintains the strop. For experienced razor connoisseurs, we also offer white, red, black and green grinding pastes. These must always be applied to a separate side of the belt. Do not mix pastes on one belt, only one type of paste per belt. A distinction is made between honing and grinding belts and the canvas belt (back of the professional belt).
The yellow paste is pure grease for leather care and is applied to the honing belt, which is used for daily honing.
The green (coarse), red (medium) or black (fine) pastes are grinding pastes for grinding belts for professional fine grinding after sharpening on the stone - but not for the normal honing belt!
The white (lime) paste is a very fine grinding paste for the canvas belt (back of the professional belt). The white paste does not belong on leather, nor do the above-mentioned grease and grinding pastes belong on canvas! The Herold hanging belt is a classic puller belt from Solingen, one end of which is attached to a hook on the wall in the bathroom and the other end is pulled taut with a finger. The razor is then pulled off on the strap before use.
