The history of Victorinox

1884: Karl Elsener I establishes his cutlery workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. With the support of his mother Victoria, the vision of a compact, versatile and durable knife is born.

1891: Development of the first Soldier’s Knife for the Swiss Army. It replaces previously imported knives and marks the international breakthrough.

1897: The Officer’s and Sports Knife is legally protected and gains additional tools such as a second blade and the corkscrew.

1909: Introduction of the brand name Victoria and the cross-and-shield emblem in honour of Karl Elsener’s mother.

1921: With the use of stainless steel, the name Victorinox is created, combining Victoria and Inox.

1945: After the Second World War, US soldiers spread the Swiss pocket knife to all parts of the world.
