The combination sharpening stone from BÖKER MANUFAKTUR in Solingen features a practical plastic water tray for clean and controlled sharpening. This type of water stone is artificially manufactured, ensuring a consistent and even grit throughout the stone. One side is graded 2000 for refreshing the edge, while the finer 5000 grit side is used for finishing and refining the blade. The generous stone surface and high material removal rate support efficient and precise sharpening.
Soak the sharpening stone in water for 5–10 minutes. Once no more air bubbles rise, the stone is fully saturated. During sharpening, keep the surface continuously wet. Place the stone with the water tray on a non-slip surface. For beginners, a sharpening guide may be helpful.
Move the blade back and forth over the entire stone surface at an angle of 10–15° using light pressure. Start at the tip, continue along the middle of the blade and finish at the heel. After some time, a fine burr will form. Repeat the process on the other side of the blade. Depending on the condition of the edge, repeat these steps as needed, keeping the angle consistent.
For an optimal finish, repeat the sharpening process on the finer 5000 grit side. Finally, draw the blade towards you twice on each side at a slight angle against the edge to remove the remaining burr. The knife should now have optimal sharpness.
Rinse the sharpening stone thoroughly to remove residue and clean the knife carefully with hot water afterwards. If you can cleanly cut a sheet of paper, the technique is correct. If not, scharfer Laden operates its own sharpening service.
