The COTTAGE CRAFT series revives a nearly forgotten chapter of European blade history. In small grinding cottages across Solingen, blades were once shaped by hand on water-powered stones under harsh and dangerous conditions. This knife carries that legacy forward, not as nostalgia, but as function. The plum wood handle is deeply grained, warm in tone and alive in the hand. When exposed to slight moisture, the fibers subtly rise, improving grip exactly when needed. The full tang construction with triple brass rivets ensures durability, balance and mechanical integrity. With 22 cm blade length, BÖKER defines this as a chef’s knife – compact, agile, yet powerful enough for all essential kitchen work: vegetables, meat, fish, herbs. Carbon steel demands respect. Clean and dry the blade immediately after use. A thin layer of oil protects against corrosion. The developing patina is not a defect, but the signature of a working tool. With up to 99% iron content, slight taste interaction with acidic foods or dairy may occur – professionals simply adapt, often using a second knife. What remains unmatched is performance: extreme sharpness and superior edge retention. Maintain the edge with a honing steel after each use. If needed, sharpening can always be restored properly – a discipline practiced at Messer Rödter since 1909.
