Travel cutlery has its historical origins in the time before industrialization, when cutlery was always carried by its owner. Around 1900, Solingen knife manufacturers adapted to the new travel habits of the population and produced space-saving travel cutlery in a variety of designs. These cutlery sets were also called tourist cutlery.
