Güde

GÜDE chef's knife store.  Buy kitchen knives from Solingen directly from a specialist store or order online

Oh, you good GÜDE
Solingen has been known for centuries as the German city of knife making. Over the course of time, what was originally a craft has developed into an art.
Now in its fourth generation, the GÜDE brand has established itself as a manufacturer of the highest quality in small quantities. No more, no less.
Karl Güde founded the manufactory bearing his name in 1910. At that time, over 9,000 craftsmen were already producing cutting tools in Solingen. How was it possible to stand out from the crowd? By only forging knives from a single piece of steel, grinding them by hand, fitting them with handles and honing them by hand.
You know the term "by hook or by crook"? Well, it comes from the metalworking trade. It must be possible to bend steel into the shape determined by the die without damaging it. If it can be bent in this way, it's fine, nothing has happened. If it breaks, you can start all over again. Or look for a new job.
1923 Takeover by son Karl Güde.  He is intensively involved with new grindings and grinding processes. In the same year, the three palm trees are established as a trademark.
1931 Franz Güde invents the back-set serration, which is still the most common serration for bread slicers and slicers.
1933 Move to Katternberger Straße, still the location of the company with the palm trees today
1941 The Güde serrated edge with pointed teeth is developed, which greatly improves cutting ability and edge retention.
1944 Franz D. Güde takes over the company, now in the third generation.
1983 Dr. Karl Peter Born, grandson Franz Güdes takes over the helm. The declared objective is the original credo, small quantities, high quality with timeless, function-oriented design.
There were several prizes:
1998 The 7006/32 sharpening steel receives the "Design Plus Prize".
1999 The Damascus chef's knife receives the "Red Dot Design Award", perhaps the most glorious German design prize.
2001 The large "Franz Güde" bread knife receives the "Design Plus Prize".
2002 The Chai-Dao also receives the "Red Dot Design Award".
2007 The "Shark" herb knife receives the "Red Dot Design Award".
And the Kappa series I offer also wins the "Red Dot Design Award".
When? Not important.
Because the knives are timeless. For 100 years now.
Alone under palm trees. Three palm trees to be precise.
