To lock the blade of this folding pocket knife, simply turn the ring at the handle. Because the mechanism is as simple as it is functional, it even has a name: Virobloc. Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel. The knife is opened via the nail nick — no hitting involved, your thumbnail pulls the blade out using the groove. Not ideal for nail-biters. Once opened, you have a truly sharp, edge-holding cutting tool that becomes an indispensable helper in many everyday situations. Its classic shape feels comfortable in both smaller and larger hands. Besides the beechwood version, scharferLaden.de also offers other wood types as handle materials. INOX stamped on the blade means the steel is stainless. OPINEL refers to this blade profile as Yatagan, inspired by the oriental curved sabre and named after the Seljuk commander Baba Yatagan.
