From Savoy, France: a folding specialty knife in size No. 7, designed for scoring chestnuts, preparing garlic and coring fruit. Not only charming in appearance, it also makes a delightful gift for anyone who enjoys roasted chestnuts. The blade opens via nail nick and locks securely with the classic Virobloc safety ring, which takes over locking duties from size No. 5 onward. This compact folding knife even sticks to a magnetic knife strip.
Tip for chestnut lovers: soak chestnuts briefly in very hot water to soften the shells. Then score crosses with the short, sharp blade and roast at about 200 °C for roughly 30 minutes, placing a bowl of water in the oven to make peeling easier afterward. Delicious, healthy – and dogs love them too. Chestnuts are rich in vitamin B, minerals and trace elements, low in fat and naturally gluten-free. Stone fruit opens easily with the short blade, and garlic is sliced with precision. Luna and Balu, incidentally, were among the most popular dog names in 2020.
Marrons are cultivated from sweet chestnuts – slightly larger and considered easier to peel. And now even the encyclopedia deserves a break.
This OPINEL No. 7 chestnut knife combines French knife tradition with everyday culinary practicality. Ideal as a chestnut knife, garlic knife or compact folding kitchen companion.
