This version is an adaptation of the BEER CANOE annual model by ROBERT KLAAS.
Where does such a name come from? Take a look at the closed pocket knife: the two nickel silver bolsters form the bow and stern of a canoe. The word “beer” stands, quite literally, for the barley beverage to which you may gain access using the integrated bottle opener. With that much liquid involved, the cross herringbone pattern of the stainless Balbach Damascus steel feels almost inevitable.
How KLAAS manages to achieve such striking patterns in mammoth molar remains a small mystery. One might speculate: did the animal suffer from cavities, enjoy red wine a little too much, or perhaps live a life of excess? The result is astonishing nonetheless. On a human, such effects would be alarming — here, they are simply fascinating.
A truly distinctive collector’s piece that combines craftsmanship, materials of historic origin and a sense of humor only Solingen can afford.
