In the world of knife enthusiasts and barbers, one name stands as the absolute synonym for excellent quality in sharpening strops: HEROLD SOLINGEN. Since 1919, the traditional German brand has been manufacturing leather strops and double-sided loom strops of incomparable class. Utilizing high-quality Juchten leather and an ingenious tensioning system, these tools provide the perfect foundation for caring for your knives and straight razors. Whether you are a professional in a barbershop or a passionate hobby sharpener, these handcrafted products will take your cutting tools to an entirely new level.
The secret behind the perfect draw lies in the precise interaction between the leather surface and the correct paste accessories. The Solingen color-coding system regulates the application exactly, and it is imperative to remember that different pastes should never be mixed on the same leather side:
White Paste: Special sharpening strop paste intended exclusively for strops with a textile linen or hemp side to ideally maintain the woven fibers.
Yellow Paste: A pure conditioning paste without any abrasive particles, used to care for and keep the raw, untreated leather side smooth and supple.
Green Paste: A coarse sharpening paste for the leather side, perfect for gently re-aligning dull bevels.
Red Paste: A medium-fine polishing paste for the leather side, preparing the edge for the final smooth draw.
Black Paste: A super-fine polishing paste for the leather side, responsible for providing the mirror-like, flawless high-end finish.
For the sharpest result, stropping traditionally begins on the side treated with sharpening paste or on the textured linen side. Afterwards, the blade is drawn flat and without excessive pressure across the untreated, supple Juchten leather side. This process perfectly realigns the micro-fine burr of the blade and cleans the cutting edge. By doing so, you invest in a long-lasting Solingen product that will provide decades of loyal service when handled correctly.
My world is sharp
