How does the double lever corkscrew work? By placing the opener on the bottle with the cork still in it, then screwing in the handle so that the wing arms extend to the 20 cm width. If you now press the two levers down again, the cork pulls out of the middle of the neck. The nickel-plated metal guarantees rust-free operation.
The term "corkscrew" was first recorded in 1681, when it was described as a "steel screw for opening bottles". The first patent for it was filed in England in 1795. And by whom?
