It is typical that the "bee" - that is, the little animal on the back of the knife handle - as well as the "Ressort", that is, the spring in the knife handle, were forged from one piece of steel. It is also a luxury that the ressort is hand-guillocheted along its entire length into the blade.
A "guilloche" is a special pattern, made of intertwined line strokes. Which form the ornament finally takes is in the hands of the master who makes these unique pieces.
Damascus steel, also called damask steel, was probably first traded in Damascus, as was the clothing fabric of the same name. In this process, iron and steel are forged into a compound of varying degrees of hardness. On the one hand hard and cutting, but easily breakable, which is compensated by a soft, flexible but not particularly sharp steel.
