Rosewood is a yellowish pink wood with red stripes. It falls under the term rosewood, which from the Spanish "palo santo" means sacred wood. The red color in combination with a sweet odor when cutting the wood gives it its German and English name: Rosewood.
The shepherd's cross is inlaid with metal rivets. You may kneel down. Whether for beauty or for reasons of faith.
