A handle guard prevents the hand from slipping forward onto the blade. Well, that also happens with other types of knives.
This falconer's dagger, however, is distinguished not only by the etching on the blade in the shape of a falcon, but also by the special cut.
Only the front part of the blade has a sharp edge about 2-3 cm long, while the rest is blunted all the way to the handle. Why is this? Because the bird of prey on a prey hunt usually returns to the falconer with live prey, which has to be killed by humans. Only the partial grinding of the knife blade prevents the animal's claws from being injured in the process.
