Do I see that right, the little fish, in the colors black red gold striped lengthwise? Shouldn't a capricious trout in red-white-red appear in a stream, because it is bright like Franz Schubert? Do I even see a perch on the pocket knife? But dear Swiss people, it should appear cross-striped and also have the typical serrated dorsal fin. It was fish of the year in 2019.
A reminder, because the animal lacks habitat. Too much development, too many lakeside paths, too many bathers and so on... Simply too many people. To protect the tasty fish-eater, which can live up to twelve years, the unused Christmas trees are collected after December 24th each year. After extensive drying and before the fish spawning season, they are then dumped in suitable places at the bottom of the 48-square-kilometre Lake Thun in the Bernese Oberland. This is because the conifers offer the best conditions for attaching the spawn of perch, pike, roach and rudd to their branches. The larvae are then carried by the current into the open water where they can feed. As soon as they return to the shore, they are already juvenile fish, which initially feed on insect larvae. In this way, the "Eglibaumprojekt Thunersee" ensures a wonderful sustainable disposal of up to three hundred Christmas trees every year, which create a new habitat in the water at a depth of five to twelve meters. The fish do without any leftover decorations. They take care of that themselves. Spawning strings instead of fairy lights.
