Since 2003 Benoît Salesses has been working as a cutler and designer.
Benoit belongs to the Compagnons du Devoir (the journeymen of duty - The "Compagnons du devoir". 
A French organization of craftsmen and artists dating back to the Middle Ages.
The aim is the sharing of knowledge and skills.  The organistaion maintains old traditions. 
The love of traditional crafts is as important to the followers as mobility.
Their traditional training and techniques include apprenticeships throughout France, where they meet the
master craftsmen of each region. The students move from company to company, city to city, region to region, country to country. 
Getting to know new companies, ways of working, colleagues and meeting foreign people, cultures and languages every year is a unique experience. The life and experience of the community at the Compagnons, the dialogue and the intergenerational cooperation, also between the different trades, is a cornerstone of the "Compagnonnage".
Knowledge and experience are passed on from one to the next. To be a Compagnon means to practice one's profession with joy and ambition, to learn throughout one's life with the aim of doing one's work well and better and better. 
 
SALESSES BENOIT's passion was mesemaking, especially folding knives and their mechanism.
